We are delighted to announce the pre-sale of the artist’s book “O Livro dos Juntós” by Ayrson Heráclito — a project by Familia Editions, with institutional support from Portas Vilaseca.

The Juntós series is dedicated to the elements and tools associated with the pantheon of Candomblé deities, establishing a dialogue with the idea of combining the different spiritual forces that govern each individual’s head. In Candomblé, “Juntó” refers to the union of two Orishas — one primary and one complementary — who guide a person’s life.

In Heráclito’s drawings, this union is expressed through symbols and objects linked to each deity, forming a visual structure that explores the 222 possible combinations among the 16 principal Orishas worshipped in Brazil. This book-work brings together this series of drawings, accompanied by “poem-texts” that evoke the meanings of each pairing.

Heráclito’s practice is deeply connected to spiritual cosmologies and the ancestral knowledge of the African diaspora, which form a central axis of his work.

The artist is participating in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale Di Venezia, in the exhibition In Minor Keys, conceived by curator Koyo Kouoh. The project is being presented as originally envisioned, addressing themes such as enchantment, sowing, and collective practices, and invoking symbols such as sanctuaries, processions, and spaces of spiritual and social care.

Familia Editions, founded in 2018 by Rio-based editor and designer Maria Lago, is dedicated to interpreting, creating, and publishing the work of contemporary Brazilian artists through the editorial format. Its artist books emerge from a close and highly personalised collaboration between publisher, artists, and printers, combining thoughtful curation with careful attention to materials, finishes, and printing techniques — always developing unique projects for each publication.
