Brazilian artists Ayrson Heráclito and Nádia Taquary are participating in the Bienal Internacional de Arte de Antioquia e Medellín (BIAM 2025), which takes place between 2 October and 25 November in Colombia.
Curated by Lucrecia Piedrahita and Oscar Roldán-Alzate, the Biennial brings together 128 artists from more than 25 countries, including prominent names such as Delcy Morelos (Colombia), Ibrahim Mahama (Ghana), Carlos Garaicóa (Cuba), Betsabeé Romero (Mexico) and Azuma Makoto (Japan).
BIAM 2025 marks the resumption, after 44 years, of the historic Coltejer Biennials, which played a fundamental role in consolidating Medellín as an artistic and cultural hub in Latin America. With exhibitions distributed across important institutions in the region, including the Museum of Antioquia, the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, the Medellín Chamber of Commerce and the University of Antioquia, the event proposes a dialogue between urban-regional identities, ancestral knowledge, memory, ecology and technology, inspired by the values of freedom evoked by the anthem of Antioquia.
The programme for this edition also includes lectures, meetings with artists, guided tours and mediation activities in different municipalities, expanding the event’s reach beyond the capital.
The participation of Ayrson Heráclito and Nádia Taquary reinforces Brazil’s presence at one of Latin America’s leading visual arts events in 2025, consolidating their careers, which are distinguished by their critical engagement with themes related to ancestry, Afro-diasporic spirituality, and healing rituals.
